Dungee and I woke up early in our tent to the sounds of ravens picking through the leftover food at campsites and the sun peeking through the early morning clouds. We packed up fast and headed to the Canyon to catch the morning sun. It was magnificent. Generally deserted, we had the entire south rim to ourselves to walk, sit, think, write and ponder the life ahead of us.
He headed down 64 South and then drove straight through to Tucson, where my college roommate, Carly, has a beautiful family. We met up with Carly and Caleb, her husband Steve stayed home with Cody, the other half of the set of twins. We walked through the campus of U of A and then grabbed some Mexican food outside in the courtyard. I got to help Caleb take his first sips ever out of a cup. I kinda felt like I've been doing the same thing lately, taking a lot of first sips out of life. It seemed surreal to me that the next day I would be in California, in Encinitas, the end of the road and the beginning of my new life.
I watched Dungee and Caleb bond on the sidewalk and enjoyed being with good friends and seeing new lives take shape.
